Aventura Todd Rice Wears Many Hats
By Eleanor Hannon - November 10th, 2005

Todd Rice, character actor/comedian/writer and director, has been a resident of Aventura since 1999. He is the CEO of Telcom.net located in the Total Bank building and are members of the Aventura Marketing Council, acting as chairman of the Technology Committee. They develop web sites for some of the larger companies in the Aventura area.

As if that wasn't enough, Todd is very much involved with Improv Comedy Groups. Not only does he become part of the act, but often directs the shows as well. Presently he is involved with two Improv Troupes, "Laughing Gas" and "THEY improv."

"Laughing Gas," South Florida's longest running improv group has been around for 13 years. "THEY improv," serves a two-fold purpose. In addition to bringing laughter to their audiences, they are invoved with "Comedy With a Cause," raising money for charities and helping organizations in need. They assisted the Stars Behind Bars program, in Aventura, for the MDA Telethon in conjunction with Jerry Lewis's Muscular Dystrophy Association, helping to raise money to help fight neuromuscular disease. The event took place on August 16th at the Prime Grill Restaurant, in Aventura on 207th Street. Todd says, "We hope we can bring some of our comedy to Aventura and develop the city as a place for such events to occur." Finding the right location would be the first step.

It has been known that a laugh a day keeps the doctor away and a good belly laugh could find people exchanging their way to the gym for an evening performance of "Laughing Gas." Laughter is the best medicine. The results of a study at the University of Maryland School of Medicine shows laughter helps blood vessels' function better. The comedy troupe has impressed audiences throughout South Florida and can be seen at the Improv at Seminole Paradise Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood. "Laughing Gas" performs Friday and Sautrday nights at the Main Street Playhouse, located at 6766 Main Street, Miami Lakes with 90 minutes of interactive comedy. Curtain time is 11pm.
