THEY Improv Takes on Morissette, Musingly
by Michael Sasser
Two favorites meet, clash and will produce plenty of laughs when
live comedy meets lovingly loopy pop singer Alanis Morissette
to begin the month of June.
THEY improv will provide a birthday salute to crazy vocalist Alanis
Morissette in the Mental Ward in Fort Lauderdale, on Friday, June
1st at 9pm.
THEY improv are leaders in South Florida comedy, and it continues
its pioneering ways with the tribute. "Alanis in the Mental Ward"
will feature over an hour of experimental acoustical comedy at
the Mental Ward.
“What better place to hold an Alanis Morissette tribute than in
a Mental Ward,” said Director Todd Rice. "Her birthday should
be in a Mental Ward. Her last top 40 single was 'Crazy' wasn't
it? I think it was self-titled."
The show will feature some of South Florida's best comedic talent
coming together to give heart wrenching emotional comedy that
any South Florida audience can enjoy.
THEY improv issued a warning when the show was announced: “All
attending audience members will receive a jagged little pill.
Disclaimer: All audience members may take the Jagged Little Pill
at their own risk. They may wake up outside of the Matrix!”
All attending audience members will also sign a birthday card
for Alanis hoping that she gets well from the Mental Ward.
This is part of a series of monthly themed shows THEY improv will
be presenting at the Mental Ward on the first Friday of each month
at 9pm in an often adventurous and always different show.
This marks the third show held at the Mental Ward and it is just
beginning to build momentum. The shows are now at 9pm (an hour
later than previous shows) and should be more accessible to audiences.
"It's been said that THEY belong in a Mental Ward," said Rice.
"Now we're there!"
So get your hand out of your pocket and come enjoy this one-time
event.
"We're not sure that this show will help Alanis' well-being,"
said Rice. "But it will help our audience laugh!"
The cover charge for the comedy room is $5 paid to the Mental
Ward (cash only).
It is quite possible that the event will sell out. If you want
to reserve seats that will be held until 5 minutes before showtime,
call and leave a message on the THEY improv Hotline at 954-889-7540.
